Additional Family-Friendly Activities

Looking for more ways to enjoy the long weekend? Here are some local attractions to consider:

Joseph Brant Museum

If you’re looking for something fun and meaningful to do with your family in Burlington, we really recommend spending a day at the Museums of Burlington. We’ve visited both the Joseph Brant Museum and Ireland House Museum, and each offers a totally different but equally memorable experience. At Joseph Brant Museum, the kids were instantly hooked by the interactive exhibits—we caught the “Game Changers” one recently and it was such a hit. They also loved the scavenger hunts, and we ended the visit with yoga on the rooftop terrace, which has the most peaceful view of Lake Ontario.
At Ireland House Museum, it felt like stepping back in time. The staff were amazing with the kids—walking us through the historic home and even showing us old-fashioned cooking methods and tools. They often have fun events like classic car shows and little carnival-style games outside. It’s a calm, engaging place that lets everyone slow down and connect with local history in a hands-on way. Whether you live nearby or are just visiting for the long weekend, it’s a great spot for the whole family to enjoy together.

Royal Botanical Gardens

Stroll through Canada’s largest botanical garden, featuring over 2,700 acres of gardens and nature sanctuaries.

The Royal Botanical Gardens is one of our favourite places to spend the day as a family. Whether we’re wandering the peaceful trails or letting the kids explore the Discovery Garden, there’s always something beautiful to see and do. The flowers and landscapes change with the seasons, so every visit feels a little different. We usually pack a picnic or treat ourselves to lunch at the Rock Garden Café—it’s such a lovely spot to slow down and soak in the views.

Even on rainy days, the Mediterranean Greenhouse is a cozy escape with tropical plants and calming vibes. It’s not just a garden—it’s a place where we reconnect with nature and each other. If you’re looking for something a little slower-paced but still full of wonder, the RBG is always a good idea.

Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Enjoy hiking trails, picnic areas, and an outdoor pool (weather permitting) in this expansive park on the border of Burlington and Oakville. Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville is a fantastic option. The park features stroller-friendly trails like the Maiden’s Blush and Trillium Trails, perfect for leisurely walks through scenic landscapes. Children can enjoy the retrofitted Playbarn and visit farm animals such as goats, pigs, and chickens at the Children’s Farm. While the large outdoor pool is currently closed for repairs, the park offers an 18-hole disc golf course and ample picnic areas. Seasonal events at the Spruce Lane Farmhouse provide a glimpse into 1890s farm life, making it both an educational and enjoyable experience for all ages.

Travel Tips

  • Parking: Both Spencer Smith Park and Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park offer limited parking. Consider using public transit or the free Canada Day shuttle services to ease your commute. In general, be prepared for crowds and possible wait times for finding a parking spot!
  • Weather: Events are weather-dependent. Check local forecasts and event websites for updates.
  • What to Bring: Pack sunscreen, reusable water bottles, and lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable seating.
